About Model Health Inquiry

The British Fashion Council recognized that the health of models on the catwalks of fashion shows around the world has become an emotive issue – giving rise to the “Size Zero” debate. The independent Model Health Inquiry was established to determine the facts and recommend action that should be taken by the British fashion community.

The relationship with Aura Financial

Aura Financial was appointed by Chairperson Baroness Kingsmill before the Inquiry Panel was formed because of previous successful collaboration. We supported the Inquiry Panel throughout the project by identifying issues, creating a strategy and the communications infrastructure, messaging and materials. We provided the international press office function and liaised directly with The British Fashion Council, Government departments, models, designers, and health organizations.

The consultancy challenge

In an emotive international debate there was a need to provide a practical framework for communications which underlined the independence and credibility of the Inquiry in order to accommodate the views of informed stakeholders and clearly articulate the Inquiry’s recommendations.

The British Fashion Council perspective

“Aura Financial skilfully navigated the Model Health Inquiry through a turbulent media and public environment. From the outset the Inquiry was taken seriously by the media and the industry recognized that the benefits of credible findings would help on all fronts. The team worked with us to develop a lasting framework and recommendations which were acted upon.”

The client perspective

“The Aura team was an extension of the Inquiry Panel and knew when, where and how to add value. They were trusted to do the right thing 24/7 and provided real insight to the Panel as well as developing the right materials. They clearly cared about the issues and about the value of the Inquiry’s work.”

A network partner perspective

“The form and function of our work was scrutinised by the fashion and media world. We pulled together the branding, website and corporate identity in a tight timeframe and worked with another Aura partner in photography. A great opportunity to start from scratch and to bring each element together for a demanding team.”

An Aura Financial perspective

“Transferring our skills from business inquiries into the fashion world was very stimulating. Our work focused on serious issues but the stakeholders were drawn to the emotive aspects so a disciplined approach to media relations was essential. The industry experts who formed the Panel were at the top of their trade internationally and the Inquiry process itself was a great experience for us all.”
